I use to drink to sleep, but now I sleep better without..
When my mind would race like a speeding bullet and I felt so much anxiety and tension from bad things that have happend to me in the past including as a child having to experience 2 dysfunctional real parents and then 7 crazy step parents, I would drink a lot before trying to go to sleep. I thought that way I wouldn't just toss and turn for hours at a time with high stress and depression. Now sober only 20 days, I am not getting up at 4AM feeling hungover and sick and depressed any longer. I actually am sleeping like somewhat of a normal person. That has meant so much to me. Just another reason I want to stay clean and sober.
Isn't it awesome waking up without that feeling of impending doom? One of the first things I noticed about being sober.
BTW, welcome 96 !!!!!
You may experience some insomnia in the coming months. And, you'll most likely haf drinking dreams. It's all normal, and to be expected.
Are you working a program ? A good 12 step program will put all the baggage you're carrying around away for good.
Congratulations on 20 days 96. I also drank to help go to sleep, and for a bunch more reasons. I actually really didn't need a reason. I just loved getting drunk.
Today is the end of day 8 for me.

Welcome, and congratulations on your sober time.
I used to drink to 'help' me sleep - and, like others, I was merely passing out. They say that using alcohol to fall asleep prevents you from entering into a true REM sleep. So it's actually not really so restful.
