Arrow HI I am new here, but am no stranger to PTSD.

I was first diagnosed with PTSD at the age of 15.

I was in foster care after running away from an abusive home.

I was diagnosed again at 18 durning a stressful marriage.

I am not sure I still have PTSD, but wouldn't suprise me if I still have it.

I still have panic attacks from time to time.

On this past Wed. I was awake for almost 40hrs straight!!! I even went to work and didn't miss a beat. I took no kind of drug to keep me awake, I took several over the counter sleep aids to help me sleep and drank some alcohol to try and sleep. To no avail, still wide awake after almost 40 hrs.

Is that a symptom of PTSD??? A nurse friend of mine told me I may be Bipolar.

Anyways, hope to hear from you all soon.

BTW, where is chat?? I am not very puter savy, so excuse my ignorance.

Love,
Jes

Wecome jesika,

We have chat boards at http://www.soberrecovery.com/chat

We don't have a chat board for PTSD, but most of us here suffer from some form of anxiety so there may be others in chat who understand. Not sleeping could be one symptom of Bi-polar, but PTSD can cause it too. I usually get about 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night. There have been times when my adrenaline was so high that there was no way I could sleep. Talk to your doctor about it and see what he/she says. Watch the caffiene. I know the coffee all day is most of my problem.

I'm sorry you've suffered abuse. I've had PTSD for about 30 years. It changes forms, but still keeps kicking. Not anything like it was. Now I just suffer from obsessive worry.

Please feel free to post.

Hugs,
MG

Hi, and thanx for responding.

Have you found any info about insomnia that is linked to ptsd?

A few days ago I was up for almost 40hrs straight, and still went to work without missing a beat. I wasn't tired at all. Wondering if it has something to do with ptsd.

Thanx in advance.

Jes

Jes,
Your post touched me. I was about your age when diagnosed with PTSD. They also told me I was bipolar. But through the years no two doctors can agree. I know how bad the insomnia is. You also mentioned drinking to help. It is not uncommon to drink/self-medicate to obtain relief. I have been addicted ti pain pills/alcohol/other drugs since I was ten. i am 31 now and more scared than I've ever been. this site is a blessing though. I remember how isolated I felt as a teen with all these diagnoses. I am attempting to stop all drugs now and with each day of not using it seems like i relive so much horror I am truly in a horror flick. Well, just wanted to say hi and thanks for sharing. I hope your day is going well.
Hugs,
Tammie
