Third day without a drink

Hello everyone! I just wanted to tell someone that this is my third day without a drink. Last Friday I drank, Saturday I had just a few throughout the day to help with the horrid hangover, Sunday was day one, and here it is Tuesday and I still haven't had a drink. It feels amazing. I've had some withdrawal symptoms, hurt all over, can't sleep but exhausted, but this evening I feel better than I have in a long time. I have craved it a lot tonight. I was thinking maybe I should continue the tapering off process a little more to help with the withdrawal stuff. Crazy thought! Reading here helps so much. And I'm keeping a diary and trying to do the exercises from the 'smart' website. I did the one where you make four sqares on a piece of paper and list what I get out of drinking, what the benefits are to me and also what the drawbacks are, the prices I have to pay, and what all is bad about it. It helps so much to focus on all the great and wonderful reasons I have to stay sober so that when that alcohol craving starts I have more strength to say no. I'm praying, too, and that may be the best thing.
Thanks so much to all of you for being here. I want to try again, and this time I want to never take another drink.

Yes...
we get to try as many times as we need to ... ;o)

And "never" is a pretty harsh word to swallow for me... so... I gotta take things 24 hours at a time around my addictions...
24 hours I know I can do..

Praying for surety of purpose for you... for when the going gets rough.

Congratulations Karen! My last detox lasted about seven days. UGH. I'm past the point of even having hangovers unfortunately... I go straight to the walking dead.

Thanks everyone! I went to bed really early last night and slept all night long. I guess I must have really needed it. Congratulations to you, Stormy, for starting over, too. It's so much harder, to me anyway, to start over. I've been wanting to for about six months, but just kept letting my mind come up with excuses for just one more. It's so good not to have a hangover. I know it's one day at a time, and I'll try and think of it that way, too. But I want my one day at a times to go on forever. I mean, I don't want to relapse again. I've got to do things differently this time. Hugs to you all.

Just for today, we don't drink.
And yep, doing things differently is the key.
It gives value to our relapse, in a sense.
We have learned something, while we were in the dark.
I'm happy to see you back, Karen

That is great. Tuesday was my third day as well. If you can do it I can do it and if I can do it you can do it. So let's just do it. I too never want to pick up another drink. I too have not been able to sleep well. I too am very tired. But the feeling of freeing myself from this that has such control over me by far outweighs being tired and sleepy. Hopefully we can encourage each other. Today is Wednesday and we don't need alcohol to make it through this day. Keep up the good work and know that you are not alone in this.

Congrats on 3 days you guys! I'm on day 3 also, but my problem is i can't seem to decide if i really want to stop. I know I would like to stop, but don't really have a support system at home. My husband doesn't think I have a problem (mainly because he's my drinking buddy and I don't think he wants to lose that) so he's not supportive of the AA thing which makes it difficult. So, basically I go through self destruct mode and try to make him see it would be in both of our best interest if i were to quit. Eventually, it will happen but it may take quite a few "YETS". But for today, I'm not going to drink. One day a time - right?

They say that a different way in the "rooms" -

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

Good for you for not drinking today - we all do it one day at a time. Hope you (or he) don't have to see too many more "yets."

Peace & Love,
Sugah
