Tired
Good Afternoon:
Perhaps not so good for me. Again, once again, I've disappointed myself.
I am struggling terribly with alcohol and need help. I'm involved in a pattern of about once a week. Usually on Wed., when I go out and drink beer and shots until I am totally wrecked. Usually I miss work the next day as I did today - which then makes me suffer added guilt. I can't keep this up as it is wearing me down. I am thinking of going to AA but havn't yet.
I don't want to be this person anymore. It is too painful.
Pain has been my middle name since childhood. Being raised by two alcoholic parents took its toll on me. That is another story.
Anybody have any suggestions for me.
Thank you.

Hi Laurie,
I sure remember being caught up in the cycle of drinking/shame/guilt/more drinking. It was so hard to get out of it! If you are ready to stop the cycle, you can do it by taking small steps. Stay sober today and begin to make plans for next Wednesday night. Plan to do something specific that doesn't involve alcohol and will take your mind of what you would have normally been doing. Keep visiting here for inspiration.
Love, Anna

I have not been able to stay sober by "willpower" alone--it has been very helpful to become a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and work the 12 steps of recovery. Why not attend a meeting tonight/tomorrow? Please keep us posted. Wishing you the best. Blessings

Hi Laurie,
If you go to a meeting tonight, you'll get a good run on next Wednesday. Who knows, you might even be in a meeting next Wednesday and not have to worry about it. AA works but there has to be a first meeting at some point. Keep coming back.

There's a lot you can do online. These forums are great. You can read about various recovery groups, what they believe, and how they work.

You can go to online meetings at SMART Recovery or here.
Take some time now to plan for next Wednesday. There are lots of folks who can help you strategize for not drinking. Fill your time with other activities. Find a non-drinking friend and make plans now for next week--isn't there a new Batman movie out?
Meanwhile, post here every day....
Take care,
Don S

Welcome Laurie!
You can end this cycle you really can. Don gave you a good link to consider. I couldn't do it alone and found a means of support that worked for me in AA. You have many options to choose from, find something that works for you.
