Stuck

I'm such an odd alcoholic. I don't drink everyday, or even want to drink everyday. Sometimes I go weeks without drinking and I'm fine. But when I do drink, I go overboard nearly every time. I drink for effect. And then the next day I feel awful and want to drink again to make that feeling go away. I don't drink during the week because I don't function well at work hungover. Is anyone else like this? Drink to the point of intoxication only a few days a month?

It's not uncommon. That is usually referred to as "binge drinking." Some people go weeks or even months without drinking, but once they take that first drink, they have no off button. They'll drink until they pass out, or run out of alcohol.

Hi and welcome back A,

yeah its common - no less destructive than drinking all day everyday, might even be a bit worse cos you're cramming a lot of alcohol into a short space of time.
I read back through your history - seems like this has been an issue for you for a long time now.

Why not make 2024 the year you change things for the better?

I was once like that, ABC. Over the years it grew into dependency & I found myself drinking every day. I never imagined I'd allow that to happen.
I finally admitted that every time it was in my system, unpredictable & dangerous things happened. It's wonderful to be rid of the uncertainty.

You're right, Dee, it has been an issue for a long time. I don't understand why it's so hard to just stop. During the times when I'm not drinking life always seems better. Clearer thinking. Better sleep. More time with my hobbies. I'm planning to start spending more time in this forum to see if that helps. I don't have many friends in my life that I get to spend time with so maybe I'll can make some here.
