A Moment of Clarity
A Moment of Clarity
I have heard few things at meetings/ groups that have helped me tremendously(that is my big word for the day) , but there was one thing I heard a long time ago that hit me so hard as true, that I still use as a guiding tool in my everyday life. It has caused me to get a different job, to leave relationships/friendships, you name it.
Someone was giving an open talk and she said:
"When the pain is worse than the fear, you will change"
Holy Crap! What an awesome thing to know, to actually be able to apply that to a situation BEFORE it gets out of hand. I have used that so many times to make decisions that I lost count. It is my Mantra, I put in what ever I am going through into that phrase, and if the answer is yes, the pain of that situation is worse than my fear of change....I change! When I tell people that when they are going through something difficult, that get that same look that I got, how simple, yet profound.
I would love to hear something you have heard that inspires or guides you through recovery and life. It is amazing the tid-bits of knowledge that we in recovery have gleaned from others in recovery.
Peace...Cathy

"Why waste a minute of worrying" is the
phrase I remind myself often so that I can
remember Who is always in charge of me.
Guiding me in all my puzzling, crazy, insane
thinking and actions.
God Grants me the Serenity to Accept
the things I can not change.
Courage to Change the things I can
and the Wisdom to know the difference. Amen.
It's what continues to work for me as
long as I work it.

I'll never forget being at a Big Book meeting and a lady was talking about how "half measures availed us nothing." She went on to say that "half measures don't avail us half. They avail us nothing." Up until that point I'd been struggling and it really hit me that if I do recovery half-hearted, I wouldn't get partly sober. I wouldn't get sober at all.
I had to fully commit myself to sobriety in order to get sober.
It seems obvious now, but at the time it was a huge revelation.

This has always stood out for me. There were times when I thought there was no way I'd ever be able to get sober. Belief in one's ability to do something great often stems with a single step in the right direction.
"those who think they can and those who think they can't are both usually right"

"Always tell the truth, it's the easiest thing to remember"
"Character- it's who you are and what you do when nobody's looking"
I've learned these and teach them to my sons.
I keep hearing this lately and it makes me smile,
"If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time"
