I've had the same $20 in my wallet for weeks!

That never would have happened before!! I used to stop at a local grocery store and buy a gallon of milk or a pack of mints, use my debit card and get cash back. Walk next door to the liquor store and buy another fifth. Wife would never see any charges on our bank statement that way. I thought I was so clever!

Seriously.... I'll prolly hit up the local diner for breakfast Saturday morning. Then bring donuts and chocolate milk home for everyone else. Win- win as far as I see it.

There is a great app I use called I Am Sober which tots up your money saved. I put in £15 a day which is the absolute bare minimum.
£810 saved so far, which is crazy! I have just come back from ten days in Paris, staying with a friend and I dread to think how much I would have spent if I was still drinking. A bottle of wine was 17 euros, a bottle of beer around 8e, a cocktail 14e.
If I am being realistic it is probably pushing a grand, A GRAND, in just under two months on alcohol. I have managed to put away savings and still have money left over. Even though booze is cheap from the supermarket in the UK it still adds up when you drink a lot every day.
Next year I have a goal of saving £2000 which is just over 3000 AUD so I can travel around Australia for a couple of months after I have finished my year in New Zealand. Would have been impossible if I was still drinking. Alcohol is expensive in NZ and I would be in a backpacker environment which is perfect for hiding alcoholism. No way in hell would I have afforded to go to Aus, which is even more expensive.
As you said, the gifts of sobriety just keep coming and coming
