Drop in to say Hi!
Haven't been on the forums in a while. I thought I'd drop in and see who's still around and who the newcomers are.
Things are going really well. I'm not even sure how many days I have sober anymore. I really don't care as I am living in the moment and looking to the future.
We started attending a new church a few months ago. This was critical in my ability to stay sober and grow in recovery. This place is non-judgmental... they are open to everyone and everyone has an opportunity at redemption. This was huge for me as an addict!!
For the first time in many years, I can honestly say my life has a sense of direction. For the first time in many years I am truly happy.
To those that are newly sober.... hang in there. work whatever plan works for you... whatever that may be. It doesn't always have to be based on God or any religion really. It doesn't always have to be about a "program" or whatever. But you certainly need a plan and you certainly need support in your recovery. That could be here on SR, or somewhere else.
This is all. God bless.

This is VERY true!! When you’re in the trenches of alcoholism and still drinking, there seems like NO way out! Or I could get out for a day or a few days, but right back down again. It wasn’t until I could put some distance between myself and the trenches that the sun started to shine and I could walk a little faster away from the pit I dug myself out of.

Take care- happy holidays!
Excellent, steve! Finding a church was an important part of my recovery, too. Soon after I got out of rehab I walked over to a nearby church and saw they had a great band. As I'm a musician I introduced myself and soon started playing bass with them. Now we have moved to a new church and are developing a contemporary service there. The pastor is dynamic, the people are diverse, and the vibe is loving and without judgement. The support and encouragement of my bandmates has been a huge help in my maintaining sobriety for 2 years ( on the 23rd.) SR has been a great support as well. Wishing you well in your continuing sobriety.
