Day 8

Sitting here on break at work. Today is day 8 sober. Haven't strung this many sober days together in months.
Feeling pretty good.
Began painting and drinking tea at night instead of my usual routine.
I actually went out to a club for a work even this weekend and was the designated driver. It wasn't hard to NOT drink. The only somewhat difficult part for me was leaving and a few friends stayed behind to party. But alas I wound up home with a clear and sober mind and had a great sleep.
Today is a bit more difficult. I find myself thinking about drinking... but my plan after work is to hit the gym and do a dance class...which I love more than anything else!

Feeling good though. Feeling clear. Feeling motivated.

*rant done

Congrats Kylo!

We've all been there. Some days you feel good, some days are a bit challenging.....but keep charging forward, so the good days outnumber the bad.

Congrats on day 8 Kylo! Glad you were able to stay sober at the club, you may want to consider other activities for a whole too that aren't heavily alcohol related.

Congrats!

Have you tried AA? I didn't and dried out for a year, but relapsed bad - hospital bad. AA has been great, good people - all types.

Just a suggestion. Nice job!

Nice job on 8 days Kylo. Hitting a club sounds risky but I'm glad you came out unscathed!!!

Going well! Day 11 today which I'm happy about.
A little bit tough today none the less... the ol' AV has a lot of excuses lined up for me it seems.
I will not drink though. Just tough to have these thoughts swirling around.
Luckily I have plans with my good friend and we will just end up relaxing and cooking some dinner.

Good job. But be careful with drinking events in early sobriety. Here's why..

It's usually fairly easy to make it through a single drinking event, because we have planned for it and had our defenses up. Lord knows I did it many times, but subconsciously the ego (AV) starts a little resentment going. It's subtle, but a day or two later we start to feel the urge to have a drink, as you did. We wonder where did that came from? And it hits us after we have relaxed our defenses.

It's because our AV didn't like being pushed on. That little reptilian brain was forced to sit and watch others having a good time, without being able to join in. So it will start a little voice going in our head. And if that little resentment starts to grow, then before long we will find ourselves entertaining drinking thoughts again. And once that starts, it's often just a matter of time.

Hang in there. Be careful tempting that little reptile too much.

The thoughts come...the important thing is that they GO AWAY...and if we give it enough time....they do pass. You will get STRONG urges...I suggest when that happens...eat something quickly...anything....candy...(preferably chocolate)....

Eating really changes the mind. Works everytime for me...and I am not heavy...lol.

^^^ Thankyou

And advbike.... you hit the nail on the head. That makes a lot of sense. A few friends from work went out drinking tonight and I admit I was jealous. Just being honest here.
But I stuck with my plans and watched movies and made a healthy dinner with my good friend. I'm happy I didn't drink and I look forward to day 12 tomorrow.
Time for bed

Thanks all

Way to go Kylo! Every day is an accomplishment. Those things will get easier in time.
