Check to see if your area has a community Thanksgiving and/or Christmas/Holiday dinner. When I was growing up that was how my family spent thanksgiving - working the night before helping to prepare all the food, and then serving it and eating with everyone on that day. Many of the people who came were there because they had no place else to go, but others came because they wanted to help - but once you get there everyone was just there to enjoy the food and company.

Many churches sponsor meals like this at holidays or sometimes even just weekly food pantries or community meals. They are a great place to enjoy helping and being with others.
