could use a virtual hug

hi all

I'm a bit stressed and just wanted to check in with the SR folks. I don't feel like drinking per se, just tired and stressed.

I'm temporarily staying with my elderly parents this week, because they have a bunch of unexpected health problems that happened recently. My dad had a pacemaker put in on Monday, which went well. My mom has atrial fibrillation and gets a electrocardio-conversion procedure next week. In the meantime she's on meds which make her dizzy and unsteady. Wednesday night she fell, broke her dental bridge/plate, and got huge injuries to her face (whole face black and blue, swollen). Now she's on a liquid diet, and I'm running around trying to puree food and find something that she'll eat, and fix other stuff my dad will eat.

Sorry to whine. I thought of ducking out to an AA meeting, but I'm reluctant to leave them alone for long. I have 3 siblings and we've set up a rotation, so I'm off duty tomorrow afternoon. I also called my sponsor today and did take a couple walks around the neighborhood.

anyway, it occurred to me even if I can't get to a meeting, I can check in with SR peeps.

Hang in there, we are all here for you. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate. It is good you have SR to turn to. I will keep you and your parents in my prayers.

That is a lot to handle for sure! Sounds like you've got a great plan to handle the alcohol side though. We are here for you! I promise I will not ask you to make me something to eat

thanks all .. it helps!

It's funny, my parents don't drink but they keep booze around for their friends/visitors. I have to push wine bottles out of the way to get at the food in the frig. But oddly enough, I'm not even thinking about the booze -- doesn't look good to me, I don't want to drink.

Pain pills though -- a few nights ago I did have a dangerous thought of "I wonder if there are pain pills in the house?" I don't think there are, and I won't go looking, but that addicted voice in my head was thinking about it. I'm not going to seek or take any, but I just want to "out" my AV here on SR, so that it doesn't get any traction.

Family is everything but sometimes you do have to focus on yourself. You cant take care of anyone else until you can take care of yourself. You have a lot of support here and we all have struggles. Keep your head up it will all pay off.

Hi tursiops, have another hug .

In an effort to neutralize some of the stress that is pressing down in my life, this morning I played and sang out loud (loudly) to 'Ring of Fire', 'Stand By Your Man' and kept going through breakfast with 'Sometimes It's Hard To Be a Woman'. It felt surprisingly good.

Hang in there. Good job not drinking or grabbing a few pills.

Glad you're posting here, you're not alone. Good your siblings are rotating, so you can take some time for yourself and a meeting tomorrow.

Hug for you. That makes me kind of sad to think of her face all swollen. I am glad your parents have you and your siblings to look after them.

Big hugs from me, too, Tursiops. I am glad to hear that you took time to take care of yourself and go to a meeting. Dealing with elderly parents as infirmities grow more acute is so hard. I am going through that, too.

Verte, I'm sending a hug your way, too. Take care, friend.
