8 Negative Attitudes of the Chronically Unhappy

Another one in the "not sure where this belongs category" but when reading this I realized that several of these attitudes either:

- pushed me to drink
- kept me drinking
- were exacerbated/reinforced by drunkenness
- were harder to shed while drinking heavily

Anyway maybe it's interesting for some of you too.

I really enjoyed this quote:

“Forgive yourself. Everyone makes mistakes — and mistakes aren't permanent reflections on you as a person. They're isolated moments in time. Tell yourself, "I made a mistake, but that doesn't make me a bad person."

— Mayo Clinic

I just like the idea of something being an isolated moment in time. When I drink and wake up the next morning feeling like garbage I just shame myself into oblivion, but obviously that's not effective considering I just keep doing it. I think looking at how to handle the situation as an isolated moment, realize that you're not like that all of the time, then healing can work easier because you're not hating yourself to a point of drinking again.

Good article, A +

A lot of good info there. I used to be very negative and drinking only made that worse.

Excellent article.

When I stopped going to my meetings and then neglected practicing my recovery program, I began a 10-year descent into this sort of mindset until I was so miserable that the only way out that I could see was to drink.

Before I actually got into real recovery this time and back into my program and regular meetings, I had read some books that helped me begin to notice my thought processes and how they were affecting my perception of the world. It wasn't until I stopped drinking though, that I really started to be able to begin to turn that around and see good results.

Now when I look back on that period, it was almost like I was a different person, my thinking was so different compared to how I view the world now. Thank you for sharing that!
