Three Years
Three Years
I haven't been on this site in a while. Sobriety has become a normal part of life, so much so that I actually forgot my three year sober date.
In those three years, I've gotten engaged and married to my wonderful wife, and I got a much better job than the one I was previously working.
Sobriety is the best decision I ever made for myself. When I decided to get sober, I was 27 (30 now). I wasn't nearly as bad off as some alcoholics, but thanks to the wonderful members here, I realized where I was heading, and I had the power to change it. I was drinking about two cases of beer a week, and it was escalating.
There was a point when I couldn't even imagine my life without alcohol... now I can't imagine being drunk all the time like I used to be. I wasn't what would be considered a "severe" alcoholic, but I can't even put into words how much better my life is sober.
Sorry for the rambling. Just wanted to stop in and give a positive story to those struggling. These types of stories helped me three years ago.
Good luck on your journeys; you can do it.

Well done. The fact that being sober has become "who you are" and barely noticeable is very encouraging. Most of us drunks view alcohol as an integral part of our life, a part of us that cannot be cut away. Your recovery proves this to be only an illusion that keeps us despair. I'm nearly three years myself but think about recovery everyday and take steps as a defense against forgetting and dropping my guard. Thank you.
