Thanks guys for all the support. Really helps.

Had a few triggering moments in the last couple of days. Today I spent all day surfing and felt like having beers after, but i didnt - i wouldnt of gone surfing today if I was drinking last night, so didnt seem right.

Again I find if i think to far into a future without drink, I find that a trigger. My brain always says, "impossible" - at which point I go back to the old adage "I will not drink today" and it helps.

Well its 11pm and nearly timee for bed.. Worn out, too old for 5 hours of surfing... was fun though !

Well done for not drinking and for getting out and doing something fun and good for you!

I'm the same with the whole 'forever' concept. One day at a time seems a lot less daunting.

For a long time I looked ahead for the next 24 hours - that was all I could handle.
One I started getting a string of 24 hours tho, forever started to seem not so scary.

Glad you had a good sober day Mr T

Thanks, its always feels good to wake without a hangover, to see my waistline decrease in size..

More waves today, can see them from the bedroom.. Arms not recovered from yesterday yet ! But have to make hay while the sun shines..

And just for today - Today I Will Not Drink

I read your first post from May and just wanted to say that you're lucky someone close to you said something about your drinking. Nobody in my family ever did and I think it allowed me to go farther into the abyss than I should have. Not blaming them, just saying you're lucky someone wants to help you put on the brakes, and maybe don't take that for granted.

Anyway glad to see you've been able to stay sober longer this time around. Keep going!

Well it was actually a friend, well my son's au pair who is now like family, but youre dead right, it made me think. She told me that my son doesnt like the smell in the morning, I guess from the beer. Its pretty disgusting that smell, I know it from my own father...

Anyway, youre right and its another day without drinking for me

Embrace that person close to you worrying about your drinking. Some don't have that.

Im ok, had a bit of a mental wobble last night, thought about buying some beers, but reasoned my way out of it. I reasoned that if I bought a 6 pack, id be worried about running out, but if I bought 2 x 6 Id have some left, which then would mean I needed to buy more the next night.. and forever onwards.

Anyway, I didnt and glad I didnt.

BTW, thanks for asking
