I think there is a lot of great advice and information on triggers on this site, you may want to invest some time looking into it. Couldn't hurt.

Ive been really stressed at times lately & i didnt drink its accepting that you cant drink when you accept that things will improve massively

trust me no amount of alcohol will make your stress go away

Really rooting for you find your acceptance

I think you need to play a little long range game with things like this...you're not going to find other ways to deal with stress overnight (although I recommend exercise)

the other thing is you're not doing yourself any favours going to bars.

I talk about 'building up sober muscles a lot' - like weightlifting, say.

Going to a bar and trying to fit in without drinking is like cold lifting 300 pounds without any preparation.

I have a great life now and a social life more active than I did when I was drinking - but it took time to build that up.

Youre right, short term gratification leading to long term misery is just not working out for me

Still feel the effects of the hangover/withdrawal, will be glad when its gone.

Starting to feel more positive. Body aches are going, starting to feel like doing stuff... Will take it easy for a couple of more days I think. Its like coming round from the flu when I withdraw after a big night drinking.. Horrible. Not sustainable. Every time I know ive made a mistake, yet fool myself again and again it ok and i "deserve" the high..

I know the feeling. I tried to fool myself for quite some time before I hit bottom and went to AA. There were some people begging me to go and others that knew they couldnt do anything but be there for me once I decided for myself there was no other way.

I tend to decide and then change my mind... I do this an incredible amount of times, its utterly ridiculous.

Just remember that the 'feel good' stage in drinking is but momentary and fleeting, but hangovers last a lot longer and sobriety is lasting, not temporary.

I know it's not the same, but when you're lonely, jump on here and talk to us My inbox is always open.

I'm on day 4 so still new to this whole thing but I'm pretty easy to talk to and a great listener

Or just ramble away to us in this thread. I find that typing keeps my hands busy so I tend to write a lot haha (just look at my intro thread!)
