Happy Thanksgiving everyone. My name is Brian316 and I'm an alcoholic. This year, I have alot of things to be thankful for, but most of all I am really thankful to be sober. I'm thankful to have not spent Thanksgiving eve in my living room getting drunk but making sure to save enough booze for the next day. I'm thankful I didn't spend it in some small town bar or in my basement. I'm thankful that I didn't spend it hiding so I could be drunk and no one would know. I'm thankful to have not woken up today with a hangover or to still be in bed trying to sleep it off. I'm thankful to not have to struggle to eat and thankful to not be sweating out alcohol talking to people I don't know. I'm thankful that I'm not broke spending a short check on booze. I'm thankful for recovery. I'm thankful for a place to live. I'm thankful to have some of my family back. I'm thankful to not be alone. I'm thankful for a higher power in my life to direct my thinking every day. I'm thankful to not be in jail. Most of all, I'm thankful to be alive. Thank YOU for reading this!

Great post brian! Very well said. Its amazing how much better life is when we don't pour that poison down our throats. As recovering alcoholics we have a lot to be thankful for.
