no political sides here...its really nice

Its Saturday evening, well it is in Florida. I'm about to go out and clean the boats. Just to keep busy. and well, I was thinking how nice SR is. WE don't know, UNLESS, its out there what are 'leanings' are. we don't know what 'if any' God we subscribe to. We don't know who lives in an amazing home or to one living in a project home. we truly are equal here. ITS really nice. ITS how life should be all the time. I think its why i've been coming here lately a lot. I feel accepted. And liked/loved by people I'll never meet in person. I also am on sites for my Lupus/Ra/and SJ. but its not the same. THIS one is so open/honest and forgiving. I'd just like to say thanks.... and I am very liberal socially, but I lean to the right financially..(just had to throw that in)

Socially liberal? How do you survive in Florida!? (How do I survive in Dupage County). I'm past the 72 hour mark so everything should improve from here (although these facial scrapes and almost ubiquitous hematomas are annoying.

A common goal always goes a long way in uniting people from many different views/perspectives!!

It is really nice. This site rreminds me to focus on things I can control and not waste time on trival things.

Quitting the drink has been one of the best things I've ever done...So has turning off the TV political nonsense.

Well screw you and your Reaganite leanin........JOKING!!!!
I would be very left wing.
And I mean European left wing, not your Barack Obama type left wing that's not left wing at all!!!!
But I was in rehab with some seriously right wing people and we had a great time arguing in a respectful and friendly way and we would totally look out for each other.

You're absolutely right, my friend.
We all have a lot to learn from each other.

the debate can be great but it can also be like trying to argue religion and be un-ending. Emotions can flare etc...

I guess when it comes to left vs right I'm one of those neither kinda people. I dont wanna be boxed into what one group says i should think or not think.

zjw..I agree, unless you can have a humor about it.... I have the most liberal family on earth. and I'm the Alex P Keaton of the family. SO, we laugh about it...yet, when it comes to $, they usually ask my advice. WHEN it comes to therapy, they don't.

I'm with zjw. Politics is just a box you put yourself in and there are so many people that will automatically assume something about you if you identify as "liberal" or "conservative".

Vote conservative? Gee, you must be a racist, religious wing-nut!

Vote liberal? I suppose you must be a hippie, flag-burning socialist!

LOL. That's how polarizing politics can be in the states. 50% of the country vs. the other 50%. It's sad to see how much time people can spend talking trash about each other.

There are other sites for that kind of stuff. And I find that I don't enjoy participating much in that debate anymore. It's part of the reason I moved abroad and will stay here for the foreseeable future.

Here at SR we are about recovery. I like that as well. I was in a treatment center with folks of all races, religions, and social statuses, but when we were in that group meeting, we were all on the same team. I think the world's politicians could learn a little bit from us recovering alcoholics!

But Big and Z...don't you think it can be amusing and somewhat uplifting? I guess I"m thinking of my youth...Where this is what we did. And then as a family we realized not much of it mattered. (yet, somehow I was always correct)

I prefer discussions about "P"olitics Right v Left defined like Right is the side of the spectrum where you find liberty and individual rights, govt based on the idea of recognizing and protecting those rights and the Left as the side of the spectrum where you find collectivism and the greater good.
Small 'p'olitics , especially in the US is more partisan warring between groups trying control the regime and force their idea of the proper welfare state.

Politicians are like diapers they should be changed often

I'm on here daily to remind myself I'm an alcoholic. I go to meetings to remind myself I'm an alcoholic and offer hope to a new commer.

That is liberalism at it's finest! JK.......
Yes, the polyglot( a big stew mix, ESD) of people on SR is like the rooms of AA. Regardless of one's station in life, or what their story is - that common thread that binds.

Each strand is weak, but together a strong cord is made unbreakable!

peace

YEAH FLYN....I get it....I'm just being me. and YOu know what, sayint that is pretty horrible if you think about it. all the people saying they want to help, but don't really help? not unlike me, or many of us. What could we really do? could we just simply watch our neighbors kids while they looked for work, FREE. OR simply helped the older kids with homework? while mom tried to study? could we? THIS is my way. THIS is what I've been doing.. HOUSE by house. THIS is my way of giving back. I'm not religious at all. BUT I believe in helping. SO join me in this if you can. IN smal ways. How about things like algebra..I hated, it yet my neighbor from the UK loved it..HE comes over and helps Thor. thats what I mean. WE need to start it smal. let it grow.

my moms husband loves a good debate. My brother can do it too where he will argue the opposite side just to enjoy a good debate even if they dont believe any of it they just argue the oposing side for the thrill and fun of hte debate. I played along the first couple times but they dunno when to let it end it'll be 4 am and i'll be like OMG i just wanna go to bed. Now I choose my discussions wisely with these 2 haha.

I am not going to post about my political views on this board but I agree that one of the best and most interesting aspects of SR is that we come from all walks of life, in many ways. My 3D social life has always been far more homogenous, and I thoroughly enjoy the variety and a level of support, peace and tolerance that is quite remarkable given our diversity. The mods certainly do an awesome job to make this possible.

Perhaps the only strong polarization that comes up every now and then is between people who are committed to sobriety vs. those that fancy moderation!
