Advice please liver results
Hi Chigirl. A few years ago I was hospitalized with jaundice - totally yellow all over... my eyes were scary looking. My liver test numbers were the highest they'd ever seen (so they told me anyway). My liver was failing. They did a CT scan and ultrasound, fed me vitamins and rehydrated me, and made me eat. I was in for four days and had follow-ups with the specialist, who said I was doing fine and there was no need for a biopsy.
Long story short ... I stopped drinking then and there and my blood tests a few months later were perfect. I was sober for two years. (I stupidly relapsed - but worked that out and am on the right path again!)
Oh, and I also take Milk Thistle, and drink lemon water which is great for detoxing the liver as well.
Best wishes - hang in there!

I'm booked in for another blood test for my liver in 3 weeks at my doctors request. I'm praying it will be vastly improved from the last results of 460. I'll post and let you all know. I haven't touched a drop since.
Hi & Welcome to Sober Recovery!
Well I drank for many more years than you did and was drinking straight vodka to quite a while. My body gave out and I could not hold any liquor down. I went through 2 days of severe DT's before asking for help. Prior to this the results from my liver panel was not good for years. All the docs told me to stop drinking but I couldn't. When I got to the hospital I was just told my liver enzymes were greatly elevated. I hooked up with AA at the hospital and have been sober now for over 6 years. My mind was really foggy early on but somewhere around 6 weeks my doc did another liver panel and everything was back in the normal range. I couldn't believe it! I was very lucky indeed!
I did take B complex vitamins while I was drinking and I never ever any Tyenol (acetaminophen) because it is very toxic to the liver.
Stay active with other recovering alcoholics. In AA we say "Recovery begins when one alcoholic talks to another alcoholic". I never would have made it without my AA friends.
Take care of yourself and have a wonderful life. I didn't quit until I was 55 so your 20 years smarter than I am.

As for what appears to be signs of neuropathy, the thiamine and B complex helped me almost over night. I just had more numbness though and not pins and needles. I know some that end up having those symptoms forever and others who once they stop drinking and get proper nutrition it goes away. I think alot of what varies person to person with signs and symptoms and damage done from alcohol has alot to do with if they are overweight or not. If you look at alot of the truly bad cases, the majority of the time, the person is severely overweight.

I've booked my blood test for next Monday. Not touched a drop of alcohol since 18th July so I'm hoping to see an improvement. I've been told if it's still high I'll have to go for a liver scan so I am praying it's good news. I've been taking Milk Thistle and vitamin B and Thiamine every day too.
I'll post back here when I get the results.
