Onion Breath
Onion Breath
Last night my partner got visibly angered and said she smelled alcohol on my breath. I did not drink. Even after stating such I was still being accused. After the second "smell test" it was determined it was onions. I had a sandwich with raw onions about an hour earlier.
Does anyone else get this? Is there some food or drink that triggers your partner to think you have alcohol on your breath?

If I chew gum or eat a mint, it often triggers a q and a session. If I haven't been drinking, it's always ok.
I have to tell myself that it's my behaviour that has caused her to feel so concerned.

hm. Now I need to rethink all those people in AA I thought were still drinking. Maybe they had an onion on their sandwich or a breath mint...
Don't I have egg on my face now? Goes to show how my mind can make stuff up. Ugh. Thanks for the reminder.

i dont have a partner so dont have that sort of issue to deal with but my kids were on edge for a while getting used to dad not drinking, i guess its a fear we as alcoholics have passed on to those who love us. after all the years of broken promises its hardly surprising

I would often hide alcohol from a couple people that I could never fool but using heavy and I mean heavy mouthwash. Was always a dead giveaway.
What's funny and ironic of original post is that garlic/ onions are healthy for the alcoholic's liver.

You know that's the one thing I still do out of habit, I still to this day eat mints when driving in the mornings, that is something I always done back when I drank and I guess it's still with me to this day, I never did drink and drive though, just a morning after reflex move incase I got stopped by the police.

I'm hyper sensitive to the smell of alcohol on the breath. When my wife drinks it smells terrible. I have an employee who I suspect may drink on the job; I'm watching for it. One time I had an employee tell me it was cologne. He quit.
