Oddly enough, my doctors didn't think so. Two of them. They do not want me to quit cold turkey, but they would prefer not to have me addicted to meds or further destroy what is left of my liver, either.

I should have added: this IS with my doctor's approval AFTER several tests. In fact, it was one of my doctors who gave me a copy of "Bitter Pills: Inside the Hazardous World of Legal Drugs " to read and another who recommended tapering with nutritional support. I have three doctors keeping track of me, a nurse I can call 24/7 with emergency questions and my husband here 24/7 for the next two weeks. I think I'll be okay.
This is a great online resource. For face-to-face, smiles, handshakes, etc., nothing beats AA. Tons of meetings in LA, Chicago, everywhere. You're not alone by a long shot.

Withdrawl from alcohol sucks. A bad hangover is mild withdrawl. You're gonna want to drink. Cut yourself off from it if you can. Go to meetings. Whatever it takes but don't drink. It only gets worse the next time. It'll get a LOT worse if you let it. Alcohol wants you dead!
Boobooka, I'm glad you're getting good medical care. All I can add is what someone here told me when I was new: post post post! SR can be a big component in your recovery if you stick close. It's a wonderful community.
