Woke up in Punxsutawney

Well, here I am again...back at square one. I need to let the brain fog clear for about a week before I can come up with a coherent plan. I am looking forward to this first week of recovery though...napping and healthy eating and long walks!

Welcome

As in ground hogs day. He had to become a different person before he escaped the endless cycle. Sobriety is about change. If I had simply tried to live my old life and not drank I never would have made it

I was at an AA meeting the other day where someone mentioned Ground Hog's Day.

It's so true. If I keep doing what I always do, I'll keep getting what I always get.

Since I can't drink the way I want to and still have any semblance of a normal life, and I don't see the point in moderation, I was left with only one choice. Not drinking at all.

Hang in there, after about a month you will feel so good, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Does it really take a week for brain fog to clear? At about a week, I feel completely as good as new. First 2 days suck for me as I am irratable, get the sweats, anxiety, blank staring, horrible insomnia, and when I can sleep for 2 hours, I have a nightmare and wake up.

I found the more years I drank alcoholically, the longer to took for me to get back to normal.

I'm just guessing. I've heard it takes more like six months to overcome the majority of the negative effects drinking causes to the brain.

Honestly, it was closer to a year for me.

But I do "brain work" for a living so the lag was particularly noticeable while working.

However, I'm getting sharper than ever in some ways now that the deck has truly cleared
