doing Vegas sober?

I'm going to Vegas for a friend's birthday. I'm almost two years sober, and my friend doesn't drink much. I've been two other times sober to visit a family member who lives there, and it's been fine.

What is your experience doing Vegas sober?

Any fun, non-alcoholic drinks to order?

Little irony here, my first two times to Vegas when I was drinking I hardly ever saw a cocktail waitress. My last two times there, a waitress seemed to be by every few minutes.
There's a lot to see and do besides gambling . I usually just had a diet soda.
Your friend not drinking much will make it easier for you.

I've never been to vegas. But To me its like why go to a bar if your not going to drink? But I guess some bars do have good food I suppose.

I dunno I guess I could stop at the beer store for a bag of pretzals and the liquor store for some plastic cups? I dunno I dont get it.

I'm not trying to down on your choice for going. Just point out from my alchohlic mind I just dont get it.

My wifes father has never drank a day in his life. goes to vegas all the time has a great time. I dont think he really gambles either. He'll play slots for the heck of it but thats the extent of it. He likes the shows etc..

so yeah its possible to go and have a great time I bet.

me however? I dunno if i could.

The thing I always fall into at casinos are the free drinks (when gambling). It's easy to catch a bad luck streak at the tables, get upset, turn around and there's a cocktail waitress offering a free drink to ease your pain. I would suggest if you are going to gamble, have a limit and if you lose it, walk away. And be prepared to lose it

Also, hang at the pool or go see a show. Also lots of good places to eat. Always wondered about the helicopter rides too. Plenty to do besides gamble and/or drink. Good luck

There are many things to do in Las Vegas:

- Great Shows like Cirque du Soleil
- World Class Restaurants
- Shopping
- Just walking the strip and checking out the various hotels is fun in itself
- Free entertainment like the Bellagio fountain show, or the Bellagio Botanical Gardens

Just google "Las Vegas sober" and you will find a lot of information

I've never been to Vegas either but I went to a great music bar last night and happily drank sodas. It gets easier with time. I would have found it more difficult in the early days of sobriety xxxxxxxxxxxx

One word for you. Spa. Most nice casinos also have great spas. Get a massage, maybe sit in a steam, get a facial. I don't know if you are a boy or a girl, but you will feel rejuvenated and detoxed and it may impede your desire to get all loaded up with toxins. I stayed at the Red Rock once and even got a private yoga class (for the price of a group class because no one showed up, go figure... too drunk or hungover for yoga!)

Also, there are great shows like Cirque du Soleil and great restaurants. You could also get jacked up on Red Bulls and kill at the blackjack table.

I believe the main purpose of Las Vegas is Entertainment, Gambling and Boozing. I could care less about the entertainment I can get that anywhere, I got no need to sit at a table gambling, or drink booze. I never really liked Vegas and the glorification of it, if I am going to enter the states and blow cash, rather be near the ocean, on the beach throwing away $100 or more a day. The key to anything like what your doing is to have a plan, the main purpose of vegas is drinking. If your in AA, find a meeting, call your sponsor. very dicey for anyone under a year being sober.

My family might be in the minority here, but this last August we went on a 2 week vacation to Vegas. We stayed at the MGM Grand. Because of our son's school schedule he went for one week, he's 22 and 5 1/2 years sober. This was his first adult trip to Vegas. My husband is over 8 years sober. Saturday I am 17 months sober.
We saw: Carrot Top, Ka, Mystere, LOVE, A Celine Dion protege, Magic Shows, Titantic & The Body Exhibit, Went to the Top of the stratosphere, my husband played golf, walked & walked into took the transit thing to every major casino on the Strip, Downtown Casino's, The Mob Museum, CSI, ....... AND there are meetings all over Las Vegas itself too.

Drinks. I don't like soda, I've always liked plain sparkling water. When gambling I usually had a couple of Red Bull. Needed to be specific about that with some waitresses, but they understood.... My husband drinks lots of coffee and some soda, our son drinks soda.
I LOVED our trip to Vegas. Have to say none of us feel the great need to go back in the near future. Go enjoy!. Bobbi

I was 9 months sober in August when we took our vacation. I do belong in AA, am active & of service in & out my meetings. I have a Sponsor too. I can only speak from my experience, but had a wonderful vacation in " Sin City" with my sober family. Bobbi
