First Meeting
First Meeting
Told my driver I'd be ok, and took my own car, which was refreshing and scary at the same time. Early on Sunday morning the roads were empty. Wanted to turn around several times on the way there. Even during most of the meeting I wanted to get up and run. What is that??? It's been a week since any drink.
Anxiety aside, it was a good meeting, and I'm glad I went. Met some really nice people too, which was awesome.

Ah, yes, I remember my first meeting. I shall speak a bit on it. I was struggling, didnt know where to turn. In a moment of what I thought was un-man-like or cowardly I opened the phone book and called up AA. They gave me a meeting somewhere downtown. I stood a block away hearing the people laugh and smoke. I turned and walked home, I was scared. A month or a year later I call up AA again, this time a different address to a meeting. Well I went in, sat at the back row and looked at the differences. In looks. In stories. I was disgusted by what I saw. But after many relapses I kept going back. I still see the man I sat next to, to this day. I give him the head-nod and sometimes a wink out in public. Anonimity thing ya know.
I suggest you listen to what is similar in the stories. Look at the progressive nature of this disease. And hopefully get fully, completely 100% involved. Because selfishness and ego are some major hurdles to jump over. To throw in the white flag and surrender is a sign of strength, the people in the meeting hopefully have good intentions. We are just sick people trying to get better.

cool HZ,
be patient with the meetings, give 'em a chance before you bolt.
try to find different ones too if you can. it's like a sitcom sometimes - you want to change the channel. the cast of characters changes but the plot is the same. BUT, do watch if it's the only one on.
