Red face Brain dead moments

In my short time in recovery (9 months on the 12th) I notice that daily I am forgetting where I put things. My latest: About an hour ago I opened the cupboard under the sink to get the Windex. I found my tea cup I had lost earlier in the day. I keep a list of PAWS on my fridge to remind me I'm not going crazy..... Any suggestions on what you're doing to improve memory skills ? I started heavily drinking probably around 25-28 years ago. Thanks!
:-D. Bobbi

I have found a vitamin B-Complex (or B-50) so vital to my memory, that if I don't take it for 3 days, I forget where I keep my vitamins.

Congratulations on nine months! That's huge!

Foggy cognition is partly due to age, and partly due to our drinking.

I write things down more often than I used to. And then I lose the paper on which I wrote my reminders.

Mighty Mouse my husband told me that yes it's also an age thing. We're both in Recovery ( he 7 1/2 years). I do write things down...so I chuckled reading that then you lose the paper...how true . Thank you guys for sharing. Bobbi

I agree with Boleo and I also take a daily dose of vitamin B-complex. I've read that especially vitamin B1 (thiamine) and B12 are essential for our memory and cognitive functions.

In addition to making sure I am getting adequate nutrition, I have found it useful to meditate, exercise, read books, play Sudoku, and work crossword puzzles.

I'm learning to adapt with the memory "thing". I'll be 9 months a few weeks after you and I'm experiencing the same and I attribute to my using/drinking as well as age. I have an appointment book that I put lots of information on as well as using the calendar and other "reminder" functions on my cell phone. My co-workers are also gems in being aware too of my memory issues. My students (I teach) get a kick out of it but they think I'm old anyway!

wait until you are closer to 11 months and everything is much more clear than ever before and you notice every little tiny detail of things you've looked at on a daily basis and it all seems so brand new.....

Great job on reaching 9 months - that's wonderful!

I agree with taking B-12 & doing puzzles, walking, reading. My brain had turned to mashed potatoes, but I got most of it back. You're doing great Bobbi.

This is exactly why I need to check-in with my friends here on SR everyday! Thank you all again for sharing, your posts remind me (once again) that I am not alone.
