So I did try O'Douls the other day...

Out of pure curiosity.

...and the whole "because I love the taste of beer" myth has been dispelled as just another turn of phrase from my alcoholic voice once and for all. Blech. Tonic and lime is officially my NA drink of choice when out.

OH, and, 99 days!!

I have found a Lemon Mineral Water at Whole Foods that is pretty refreshing.

Yeah NA's suck. Sure, we all the just the love the taste. The reality is we are trying to fool our brains into thinking it has the real thing but nothing happens. Then our good old drink loving brain decides maybe just one moderated real one wouldn't hurt. Especially since the fake stuff tasted so lame.

I remember feeling like such a sad sack loser standing in the store staring at the three selections and mulling how they would taste. Then spending 30 bucks to buy glorified soda and pretend it was real beer.

Thanks Sudz!! Yeah, I was moving for my new job in the mid-day Texas heat and remembered how refreshing a cold beer always seemed in such situations. So I figured, lets see if a NA is the same. Yeah, I went straight for Gatorade afterwards.

There's a reason why there's no market for alcohol-free hard liquor.

I agree! Some people think its a potential trigger. Maybe. I am of the personal experience its a further deterrent. It tastes NASTY. Water on the rocks with lime in a low ball for me.

Most importantly... Congrats on 99!

Lol! I was thinking along these lines reading this thread. Hmmm. Alcohol-free 12 year old scotch. ROTFLMAO

I just don't buy in to the whole taste thing with alcohol. Perhaps I did long ago before I started drinking alcoholically but I remember always being disappointed when someone raved about a certain wine or single malt scotch or whatever. At the end of my drinking I realized without a doubt it wasn't about the taste, it was about the effect.

Even when I was drinking I used to say that the difference between good booze and bad booze was the difference between furniture polish and furniture polish remover! Watching a Jack Daniels' ad and my friend says something about "Jack Daniels belly" and we all had to laugh--that stuff just doesn't feel good going down...or coming up!

Ha ha! When I was drinking, I used to (slurringly) say that I would drink alcohol-free vodka if it were made since I just liked the taste of vodka. Somehow it just doesn't sound appealing any more..

Chrissp--congrats on 99 days.

O'Douls is NOT alcohol-free, for those interested. Just saying. Seems like a dirty trick to play on myself. That's just me.

Yeah... Very small amount though. I think I heard you have to slam a 6 pack to get the equivalent alcohol of a regular beer. That's also the main reason why I buy the idea that it is in fact a relapse trigger for some people. For me... It just tastes NASTY!
