No turning back

My husband is so happy that I have stopped drinking. He seems confident that I really will stick with sobriety this time. This worries me. I have been very careful not to make promises in this or past attempts. He has been supportive in all the right ways. I will hate myself if I fail.

Hey, I've got the solution for you...don't fail!

Sorry to be such a wise guy.

My wife talked me down last night. I really REALLY wanted to tie one on.

Tomorrow marks the two week anniversary of my last binge. I'm determined to get past that milestone.

Keep going, GHD!

Thanks Busby,

I am also looking forward to the two- week mark. It would be a new record for me and a confidence booster.

All the best.

Take it a day at a time and do it for you, not your husband. That would just be the icing on the cake. I agree with Bob, some support would be a huge help, especially if you have a history of relapsing.

This is the first time that I am going for abstinence instead of cutting back drinking, so it is a different mindset. I am not attending AA meetings, but I am working on the underlying issues and have a non-AA support group. I am participating in this forum to keep the AV from convincing me that I can control my drinking.

Groundhog, you sound a little unsure of your own strength. But abstinence is a completely different program than cutting down. Alcoholics almost by definition can't cut down, but a great many have succeeded at abstinence. As time goes on, if you can hold out, it will become a way of life. Keep reminding yourself why you've stopped, even write it down and carry it with you.
You will get cravings and AV will pop up every now and then, but have your strategies ready and stay strong. It's worth it. Keep posting.
