I went to my first meeting!
I can't tell you how scared I've been of finally going to the AA meeting I've known I've needed for at least 2 years now. I was terrified of going, particularly as I knew work colleagues go there (I didn't know who).
They were all so welcoming, they gave me the big bible and lots of pamphlets, and let me sit quietly in a corner and just listen. I had so many hugs at the end. I couldnt stop the tears coming a few times. I now have some phone numbers to call if I am tempted to buy a drink - but they also assured me if I fall off the wagon I'm still welcome always.
:-) Day one xxx

You are doing it right. I could never get sober until I started going to meetings. At meetings you meet others who are facing the battle and it's great to know you are not alone.
You learn how to say NO to the addiction, you meet new friends and through the new friends you learn new places to go and you learn a new life-style. A life-style without alcohol or drugs.
Good luck to you and God Bless.

Just got back from my Saturday meeting and read this, that is so awesome!
They get better and more comfortable every time to go. Some meetings are better than others so never get discouraged if you didn't get or feel a meeting. Great news Daisy.

daisy, your life just changed for the better. Congrats !!
Get a good oldtimer as a sponsor and get active and involved in AA.
Looking forward to watching you grow. It will be quite a process... the oldtimers will guide you.
All the best.

Thanks guys :-) big bible, lo - Freudian slip there ;-)
I actually thought it would be my rock bottom, to go to one of those meetings where the people in the gutter meet. How wrong was I - these people are intelligent, articulate, attractive - the light shines from them because they are so grateful for life itself. Yes I've had cravings today, but reading my book is helping me, and thinking of what they said is helping me. I think I will handle my flashbacks when they come easily now :-).
I am going to go to a few more, then tell my kids what I am and how important meetings will be. Then I will make amends with my family. But they also told me not to rush anything, so I will also take not only one day at a time, but each five minutes at a time and see what I've got in front of me.
I've been wallowing and feeling sorry for myself.
I'm so excited :-D

I feel such a lightness reading your update daisy! I'm inspired by your courage and how you are choosing life -- just like you saw the others in the room are beaming with it. Sending lots of love and continued strength and straight thinking! You can do it with your Higher Power, the program and the fellowship of those in AA! xo
