Having the Flu
I wonder if Heavy drinker still consumes alcohol when they come down with a severe case of the flu or do they ride it out for a week or two and go through withdrawal at the same time.
That must feel wonderful. (sarcasm) If there was ever a time to start quitting, having the flu and riding it out for a two weeks would be a good start.
Don't make new year resolution. Nobody ever keeps it.

Winter 2011, I got strept throat twice. I was really bummed, because I couldn't drink like I wanted to. Seriously, I was damned pissed off that my drinking was being interrupted.
The second time I got it, it was so agonizingly painful, when I slept, I had to put a towel over my pillow and just let the drool fall out of my mouth. Swallowing anything, saliva included, was the worst pain I had ever experienced in my entire life.
Even though drinking water felt like razor blades on the inside of my throat, I still drank two beers, but couldn't drink anymore...the pain kicked my addictions ass and I drank like the drunk I was as soon as the pain became tolerable a few days later.

I've only had the flu once - 'proper' flu. I couldn't get out of bed for 7 days so drinking wasn't an option, not that my drinking was a problem at that time anyway (why am I posting?!) Since though, heavy coughs and colds haven't really stopped me. Vodka was the drink of choice under the guise it must be poisoning the virus too. Hmmm.
I was 'lucky' enough to have norovirus (winter vomiting bug) leading up to Christmas so I'd already had 7 days alcohol free because of it. I should have left it at that, but stupidly with Christmas and a boxing day birthday I almost forced myself to drink because that's what you do - isn't it?
Durrrrrrrrrr!!
Day 4 again now.
