My alcoholism, what it means.
"What does it mean to be an alcoholic? Now, my conclusion is that it's a truly hopeless condition, at least for me. I do believe it says that in the BB somewhere. The insanity of alcoholism is that by concluding that it is a hopeless condition in no way dissuades me from drinking. It seems to me, from my experience and others' that the solution is simply willingness not to drink. Alcoholism is in part defined by an obsession/compulsion to drink. So, it follows that something else is at work in the alcoholic who is staying sober."
My take is that your interpretation is a little skewed. Maybe get a sponsor and work the steps as if your life depends upon it, as it does. Then study that big book with the guidance of a sponsor.
Alcohol was my solution to living until I became hopeless--life was miserable NOT drinking and to drink meant to die an alcoholic death---slow and pain-filled. I felt I was in a hopeless condition. My perceptions were not based in reality and I was delusional.
What is the choice? Die an alcoholic death or try a spiritual way of life?
Remember, no human power could relieve our alcoholism.....
Congratulations on 90 days of sobriety! What step are you working on?
