Alcoholism Preventing Obtaining Employment...
Well I was set to enroll in school to get a chauffer license so I can either drive a limo or taxi. Well, I encountered yet another consequence from my past. I found out I owe the big city thousands of dollars in fines. Here are some of the "fines"; drinking open container on sidewalk, public urination, sleeping in park after hours, jumping the train turn style, drinking on bus, panhandling, ect.... Yes, I got a few tickets for panhandling outside buildings in order to get booze/drug money. I got most of these when I was homeless. I mean where else was I going to drink? It's incredible the city ever even expects homeless people to pay these things. Just another example, of how my past refuses to let go.
Just, if you go to court on these fines, it's possible you might be able to negotiate a far smaller amount. Talk to the judge, see what happens. This is a part of cleaning house.

Like Suki said, you may have a hard time passing the background check they will surely give before hiring you for a driving job. Why not for starters get retail job somewhere close to you? With the Holidays coming most stores will be adding staff at least temporarily. If you do well they may keep you on after the Holidays.
Sometimes we simply have to adjust our expectations and change our plans, Just...
It might take you a while to pay off those fines...but that's all part of being a good law abiding upstanding member of society...
Lenina's idea sounds a good one - you might be able to negotiate a smaller payoff.
Sud's idea about seasonal retail work sounds great too

With your medical history ...
hi I doubt anyone would hire you to be driving anyone.
Soooo...why not try for something more realistic?
You have expereince in the Food service industry
This time look for places that do not serve alcohol.
Yes I did that ..Yes the tips were less and so was the level of stress.
Try privately owned coffee shops or chains like Waffle House or Ryans Steakhouse/Buffet.
I did short terms in the first 2...Ryans 3+ years leaving as my incurable retina progressive disease made it unsafe to stay
Have you considered brushing up your skills if you want a
different career?
I did that too....first a community college headed me into
computer land..
The following year I did a complete change into home health
care for elders. To get certified I had to have x hours OJT
pass the exams given by the tech college of that state.
It's hard to get jobs ..so many are under employed or jobless.
I was shocked that my college educated G-son had to do
2 in order to get 40 hours...and neither offered benefits unless
you had at least 38 hours. The catch was...they only hired
for 20 hours! ..

I was a waitress at a pizza place, I worked seasonal for a department store, I worked answering phones. There are jobs available. Sometimes we have to think small. Today, I work for a private school serving students with special needs, it's part of a large healthcare system. I have a college degree and I am still not yet in the position I have the most experience in (and degree)!
You can do this!
You can do this!
to get past the past, i had to clear away the wreckage. then i had to let go. i dont want to forget it or i'll repeat it and if i regret it, i'll get drunk. i have gained a lot of knowledge from my past, knowledge of what doesnt work.

Yes, I'm looking for a retail job. I do not have any "retail theft" cases. I like driving though & have patience in traffic that most people do not. The truth is that my DUI's were from so long ago I could even get a (CDL) Commercial Drivers License. No I would not probably get a job driving a school bus, however, I could drive a truck. My friend just got hired to drive long distance & has a dui on his record. CarolD, yeah I was thinking of looking at restaurants but it's been a while since I did that. I was a good server &, of course, bartender. :rotfxko I can work as the PT custodian at the AA clubhouse but then I would have to deal with a lot of drama. When I was drinking I did not think about these things, I only drank & got high.
