I use to serve & bartend. I think the late night hours increases the alcohol consumption. However, the truth is every profession can be a drinking one. There are police that drink too much, teachers, doctors, ect... I think heavy drinkers and drug users tend to gravitate towards each other in work environments.

Yes, I'm a server and I have to go back tomorrow. Today is Day 4 AF. Have to go in and put on that smile even though I feel shaky and sick still. I sort of goofed also trying to get to sleep last night with a host of things - benadryl, melatonin, Valium. I'll be better off tonight staying up all night!
I am a part time waitress. We used to do shots before and after shifts...and sometimes during. Everyone there knows I don't drink anymore.
It can be a tough industry to be sober in though- especially if you are young. (I am 36 and teach during the day- only work one night a week now).

Hi again...
I shared on your earlier thread in Newcomers but a bit more here
might be useful to you and others. I hope so...
Yes I'm sure you can find drinkers in all professions
I've changed jobs several times and I know I did.
I've also found sober people in the places I worked includeing
the hospitality industry that I did for many years..
Personally...in my failed atempts at being sober..I found I did not
keep that way until I took another career path into a less
stressful place that had regular hours ..less free flowing money
and no booze allowed in the office.
Perhaps it was my lack of committment to livbing sober?
After years of AA recovery I did return to restaurant work
I took a day shift ..less money...less stress.
I kept it for 3 years ..did not drink...left when my vision dimmed.
My point is....regardless of anything else...to win over alcohol
I had to want to not drink more than I wanted to.

i wasnt really an everyday drinker would just drink about 4x a week and 3x would be just 2-3 beers but I would crave them pretty hard and the other time I would end up just getting drunk. Once I was drunk I would usually try to score cocaine. I just cant keep doing this its holding me back alot in life so that is why I need to quit drinking. If i could just have the occasional beer or two every month or so without developing a habit and want to do coke when I had 5 or 6 I would drink socially but I cant and im ok with taht
