Physical changes from alcoholism - crooked fingers

Hi everyone.

I was casually speaking with a physician (we were not in a medical setting) and he mentioned that long term alcoholics often have crooked and twisted fingers. I have since googled this topic and haven't been able to find any literature on this. Looking at my own hands, my pinkies and index fingers are definitely deformed - and I can only wonder if past alcohol use is why.

Look down at your own hands. Do any of them "corkscrew" or twist inward? Are your pinkies bent or crooked in such a way that the pinky finger inadvertently tucks under your ring finger?

Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks!

The only thing alcohol twisted in me was my thinking.

See your physician, in a medical setting. Ask him if you have arthritis.

Are you currently drinking?

My dad was an alcoholic and his point fingers pointed sideways...mine have a slight curve to them, but never attributed it to alcoholism. interesting!

wideninggyre....Welcome to our recovery community...

Good to know you are chooseing sobriety.

I've never heard of any correlation between alcoholism
and fingers. Mine happen to be straight.

My active alcholism was throwing me into depression
that is why I quit ...

What about your toes ? I would imagine what ever may be effecting your fingers would have the same effect on toes. I think my toes are less crooked and curled cause I dont pass out on the couch every night with with my shoes and sox on like I did for a long time and they straightend out a bit.

I have had lots of physical changes from drinking. Usually I grow taller and become great looking, then my arms swell up like Popeye....

I find my hand and fingers involuntarily constricting into a cylindrical contortion now and then.... about the diameter of a beer bottle.

All the best.

Because people seem intent on offering diagnoses, I think were done here.
I hope you'll see your own doctor WG
