Myth or Reality about Liver
I've heard from friends and even asked one of my doctor friend, all of them said that liver regenerates. I was just wondering if anyone here knows this is true and if so how long does it take to recover fully ? I don't have any problem or symptom (besides insomnia) but I think my past drinking habit must have had an adverse effect to liver. Today is my 60 day sober, do you think the liver might have fully recovered ?
Yes it is true. Go google liver regeneration.
That is why they do LIVING LIVER TRANSPLANTS. A donor gives up 1/2 of their good liver. The donee gets it. Both halves become fully functioning.
Check it out on google. The liver is an amazing organ. Unfortunately though us alkies can totally destroy it, if we do not find recovery.
Love and hugs,

you should mention your concerns to your doctor, he/she can order specific bloodwork-up called Liver Function Test (LFT) which will measure liver pancreas enzymes for you. this will give you a starting point. in 90 days, he will repeat the LFT and you can see the difference in the values. I think you are looking for GGT, GGTP enzyme numbers to come down into the normal range.

Yes there is a simple blood test that tells you liver function. I had it. When drinking mine wasn't too good. One year sober and it was great! So it can improve if not too severely damaged. It's good to get the test. I recommend it.

I see so many here who are cconcerned about their livers...if you are
please go to your doctor and follow directions after the correct test are done.
I'm an alcoholic who did not damage my liver with alcohol....instead
the organ affected was my brain....
Yes..that did improve as I continue my recovery lifestyle.
