Need help and advise please
Ok so the last week went:
Friday....8 pints few bottles
Sunday .... Bottle of wine and 6 pints
Monday 3 pints
Tuesday 2 glasses of wine
Wednesday 6 pints and half bottle of wine
Thursday glass of wine
Friday 2 bottles of wine and 2 cocktails
My last drink was 12 hours ago....
I'm feeling really depressed... Foggy brain... Crazy thoughts. I just want to know I'm not losing my mind and how long till these symptoms pass and if they are normal
Should I taper off and have a glass of wine. I don't think my drinking was overly excessive
Thanks

You're drinking doesn't look normal either...I'm not a big fan of tapering...I have no clue how to do that. For me stopping for good was the only way. If you think alcohol is creating problems in your life..You might want to do the same. Please consult a doctor before doing so...Detoxing can be dangerous...If not fatal. Good luck to you.
I drank like that too. Tapering did not work for me. Tapering was my alcoholic brain telling me it was ok to drink. If you're serious about quitting & if you think you're not going to make it detoxing alone go to ER or Dr. & tell the truth about your drinking. Best wishes to you. Sobriety is so good.

Here is a sticky thread on other posters' experiences with detoxing:

Tapering does not work. Go see a doctor before you quit. It could save your life. Your life can be so much better! Please do not let alcohol destroy you! See in your mind how you want your life to be. Do this constantly and then make it a reality. GO SEE A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN CONTINUE SEEKING SUPPORT. Sorry for the yelling. Some times that's what it takes to get through to people You can do it!

every bit of advise makes so much sense. I'm so depressed today. back to work tomorrow. I still want to go out and enjoy myself and in this depression its hard to see a social scene without evil alcohol. its a vicious loop.. i want to get this week through and then talk to a doctor on how to proceed.
Yanno, depression is a symptom of alcoholism.......and if you're an alcoholic that suffers from chronic alcoholism, it can/will affect you whether you're drinking or not. Matter of fact, it hits harder when you're NOT drinking. The depression from my alcoholism was soooo damn bad I'd end up just saying "F-it" and I'd go get loaded to knock the depression down for a while.
Not drinking may or may not be your ticket to freedom.........just keep that in mind. For me, just not drinking sucks. I needed recovery.....and recovery from alcoholism is a lot bigger than "not drinking."
Would love to help you and see plug into recovery....it's frickin' awesome.

I was told the same thing. AA is a great program, but they sometimes tend to leave out the part about seeing your doctor. People have died from DT due to not know they could die quitting cold turkey. I'd say yeah try AA AFTER you see your doctor. I'm going thru similar withdrawals so I can relate. Hope you feel better and just like I tell myself, don't give up!
