prayers needed for roommate in ICU
Hoping to harness the power of all you wonderful sober people to help my friend. He's been my roommate for 10 years, and I love him dearly.
He's been in the ICU since very early Monday morning. He should have been there three weeks before but has refused to go all this time. The nausea finally got to him and thank God he finally agreed to go. He was okay when I left the hospital but went downhill after a few hours in ICU. Now they say his heart stopped in the night Monday night, they gave him CPR, and he's on a vent. He is critical.
So if you would, please send your thoughts and prayers his way. Reading the posts of people who went through just as bad a time and lived to tell is giving us hope.

Should be a lot of very caring and well trained people in there. A (non-addict) family member of mine has really bounced back after (almost) 2 weeks in ICU after being near death, I pray for the same.
Best wishes & stay strong for yourself & your friend.

Wow, thank you all so much. He would be so moved to hear your prayers for him. I hope and pray to be able to let him know.
He is still in the ICU, and reports are he had a rough night. I'll find out what that means when I get to the hospital today. We were worried yesterday morning that he was in a coma, but at least by yesterday afternoon, it was clear that he wasn't. He is sedated and not communicating, though. They also said yesterday that he has pancreatitis, which makes so much sense now that I learn more about it and think back on his symptoms.
I so wish I had found this place earlier and that I'd done more looking into what was wrong with him. I have learned so much from reading the posts here. And now that I know more about the medical effects of alcoholism, I can see so many of them in him over the past months. If he had known too, maybe he would have agreed to get help earlier.

Happy to report a little better news tonight! He is starting to open his eyes a little, and tomorrow, they are going to try to wean him off sedation. If that works, and if he's not combative, they're going to see if he can breathe on his own without the vent. I don't think he knows what's going on yet, and once he realizes it, that's when the "combative" part may kick back in. They plan to start the process at 4 a.m.
I think all your good thoughts and prayers are working, and I can't thank you enough for them. I hope that he has the opportunity to come to this place and see for himself what great people you are and what you did for him. Thank you.
