stopped drinking cold turkey today
Following a three day Bender, I've decided that I must stop drinking altogether. I have been a heavy daily drinker for the past 4 years, consuming 12-24 drinks EVERYDAY. I am a wreck and I don't know what to do. I'm shaking horribly, my heart is racing, heavy sweating, and nausea. This is my first attempt at getting sober, any help is GREATLY appreciated.

i agree go to the doctor, having stopped like that ure going to withdraw and from what you're writing you already are , it's going to get pretty bad and very uncomfortable, it can also get dangerous, if you're serious about quitting a doctor can give you all kinds of info about support groups as well as medicine that will make this easier on your body
Hi readyforchange2
I was terrified too - so I didn't go. I ended up with a series of ministrokes.
I'm not saying that will happen to you - but seriously, alcohol detox can be really dangerous.
The best thing you can do for yourself is get checked out - it's worth the peace of mind alone.

The heck with the Dr, GET TO THE NEAREST ER!!! PRONTO
Detoxing can be dangerous. The ER will help you to get over the worst of it.
Please go, or get someone to take you NOW.
Love and hugs,

Hey guys! Thanks for the support. I entered the ER, I'm glad I did. They were able to stabilize most of symptoms to the point that allowed me to get some rest at home. I'm on a cocktail of medicine from the doc and everything seem to be going alright minus my inability to eat anything. Ill keep updating daily
Welcome, ready -
I'm so glad, too, that you got help. After I got sober, I did a little reading on alcoholism and found out that a serious withdrawal, even if you get through it OK, can cause a lot of damage. Good for you for having the courage to go.
Stick around and spend some time reading here...... it's amazing how much good wisdom you can pick up, not to mention the support.
Glad you're on the road to a new beginning!

Glad you went to the ER. Don't be surprised if your appetite is messed up for awhile.
Congrats on taking the first step for a better life. You sound a lot like I did 16 months ago. The best advice I can give you is to spend as much time on SR as you can and if you feel the need don't hesitate to get face to face support.

how can we stress enough for someone quitting at the slightess sign of a withdrawl symptom go and get help.
i thought i could do it alone and not see the doctor.
i didnt wanna waste his time as i had been there before for the same thing.
Day 4 was he worst day of my life. Woke up in the middle of the night with incredible brain shocks, trembling sweats and thought i was going tohave a seizure.
i caleed a freind at 4 am to rush me to the hospital
while there i knew that i was heading for a seizure as my body was violently revolting.
and i didnt really drink for that long 3 years but i was an everyday drinker
GAWD, your life is so important why f*ck around with it.
Go and get help but then do something about it after you get out. Dont repeat the same pattern. Next time could be fatal.
love everyone here

AS everyone says, call a doctor, call a detox center because if this is your first time you need medical attention because withdrawal sounds pretty bad. Good luck on your road to recovery! We here at SR.com are understanding people and there are alot of people here with years of soberity who can help you out. Im 3 months myself thanks to family, friends, AA AND SoberRecovery.com Good luck and hopefully you'll be okay once the W/D lessen.

So, just an update. I've been taking the librium I was prescribed in the ER, that seems to be helping a slightly. I'm finding myself to be aggravated rather easily an still fairly anxious. Also, the night sweats are nearly unbearable. I was finally able to enjoy a full meal, which in the middle of consuming I realized to be the first full meal in a very longtime. Tomorrow I'm headed to a local program that apparently offers outpatient treatment. Ill let everyone know how it goes.
