Neither word is adequate. I prefer the descriptive term 'attempted suicide'.

Either way it sucks...once I decided to drink again I was no longer "sober".

Just like in AA with the "Higher Power" words, in humble opinion, it doesn't matter what we or anyone calls it. Bottom Line: When it happens to ourselves or others, we need to rally, support, love, help, and serve to help that human (not a saint) get well. A doctor can make us "better" but can't make us "well."

For me, a slip is short and doesn't necessarily cause out of control drunkenness. I don't mean to minimize it in any way. As AA, myself and many others can tell you: any slip is VERY, VERY DANGEROUS as it can quite easily and insidiously lead to a full blown relapse. Clearly the best, safest course is to not drink at all.
