10 things that make you happy to be alive today
This actually happened to me on this evening...
On my bike commute home today I was rounding a corner and this young girl asked me to stop for a few seconds as I was passing by her on the street.
I stopped and turned around to meet her. She looked straight at me and said "I want to ask you a favor" to which I said sure. She then said "I want you to list 10 things that make you happy to be alive today. You don't have to list them out loud, could you make this list?"
I smiled back at her and said only 10? I could give you allot more. I went on and listed the first 9 to her and the 10th reason.
The 10th reason I am happy to be alive was the fact that I could experience all of the other 9 and marvel at just how lucky I was to have this experience. To Live in the very moment at all times.
She then said "you know that you are the first person that did not think I was going to beg for money and actually answered my question"
She then thanked me to which I replied no thank you for this moment and continued on home with the biggest smile on my face.
Now I sit here and think how might I have answered this very same question a year ago when I was still very much drinking and in a very very dark place in my life.
So everyone reading this I pass this pleasure on to you

Since I don't really feel like writing out all 10 I'll give you my top 3
1. I can be a part of my familys life
2. My mom saw me sober before she died
3. I have found a God of my understanding

1. I can be a part of my familys life
2. My mom saw me sober before she died
3. I have found a God of my understanding
1.) Having a quiet mind.
2.) Finding joy in the little things.
3.) Being at peace with myself and the world around me.
4.) Learning that Acceptance is more than a word at the beginning of the dictonary.
5.) Gaining the wisdom to know when to hold up, when to fold up, when to walk away and when to run. (as in the old song The Gambler by Kenny Rogers)
6.) Learning that to a large part we create our own reality.
7.) Learning to live in the present.
8.) Learning Humility.
9.) Learning Detachment.
10.) Learning Benevolance.
11.) But most of all not being too hungover to answer this at 6:15 AM.
