I feel guilty forgot HOPE

I feel guilty because I forgot hope and what works. For me in my situation I have zero desire to drink. I do still take Antabuse daily, my wife is all about giving it to me especially right before I travel. I usually am only gone for no more than half a week, so if you know of this drug, you know cheating is tough. I know it unfortunately works for only a few alcoholics. I got some sobriety so I’ll give some observations on what I have witnessed that works and hopefully it will help someone else.

1) A wife, husband or partner who doesn’t use. If not married then get married.
2) Get out of your disease. Avoid being around sick and negative people, places and things.
3) Clean your house literally. Lots of alcoholics have messy houses, stuff and cars.
4) Don’t smoke or use too much caffeine or energy drinks.
5) If possible for you become religious. I’m a born again.
6) Get a job, keep your job. If part time only get two jobs.
7) Make new friends who only know you as sober. This really worked for me.
8) Be cautious around support groups, get the good, but run from the bad.
9) Read AA literature. For self help its been around a long time and beats the good grief out of the “new” improve your life book club of the month nonsense.
10) If you got something else going on, the best I can say is get that treated. My former sponsor had no hope until he was able to get his bipolar stuff “leveled out.” to be honest I don’t think he was ever an alcoholic just self medicating for too long .

The above are what I have witnessed so take it with a grain of salt or for what its worth. I believe everyone is entitled to a life of being happy, joyous and free from alcoholism.
