Doctors consider relapses to be part of the disease, a symptom. Unfortunately shame keeps too many people from coming back. I think it's ridiculous to say someone "lost time" because they relapsed. B.S., you don't loose time. But I do think it's a good idea to count days again because we alcoholics need to be humble. Humility is a tough one for us.

Recovery is taking responsibility for your choices. I can choose to pick up a drink or call my sponsor.

I like return to drink. It takes all the high drama and BS out of "relapse" and "slip" which either seem clinical or worse accidental. Try this on...I accidentally returned to drink. Or If a guy is 5 years sober , but he had a glass of wine at a wedding did he return to drink? What does return to drink mean to you? It doesn't leave a lot of room for delusion. And I'm the kinda guy that doesn't need a lot of room for delusion.
