Hello,

I have been sober 5 days and I am so happy. I've been taking antabuse 3 days and going to lots of meetings.

My question is about Antabuse...is it ok to dye my hair while taking this drug? I'm afraid I will get sick. My doctor said he never heard of this happening, but I read somewhere online where one person became ill after she was dyeing her hair. I really need to get my hair dyed, roots are very dark and spotchly! But remaining sober is more important..and the antabuse really helps me.

Any experiences or advice?

Always read the ingredients of everything you touch or ingest. (and ask your doctor).

Please be careful, I got sick on chip-dip !?! No cologne, perfume, mouthwash, anything that has alcohol or has been through any kind of fermentation process is how it was explained to me.

Hi,

My docter recommended not using anything that had any kind of alcohol in it. That being said I have not changed any hair products and most of them do have alcohol in it. I have had no reaction as of yet and I have been taking Antabuse for 10 days. Some people it may effect differently though. By no means ingest anything with alcohol. Like the previous poster I to had chip dip not realizing that it had alcohol in it and I felt very uncomfortable for about a 1/2 hour.

I did take Antabuse in one of my earlier...unsucessful
tries at sobriety.

I drank a single split of champagne .while on the lowest dose
.got violentley ill. Champagne has relative low alcohol content...
I had not had the Antabuse for 18 hours. been on it for 7 months or so.
Had no reactions other than this one.

I don't know how sensitive you are to antabuse
but perhaps putting chemicals on your head is not wise?

If you have just started taking Antabuse if is extremely unlikely that you would have a reaction to anything other than drinking alcohol. I think I would go along with what your Doctor said. I used it for quite a while several years ago and did not stingently monitor my toiletries etc. for alcohol content and never had an issue. Just don't drink.

I am on Antibuse and I still wear Perfume and dye my hair, it just makes me go slightly red but that is all :P),,,,,,,, of course if you ingest it you will get quite sick..
