My first time saying "I don't drink any more"

For our office party. Since my rehab back in April, this is the first time I said it out loud. "I DON'T DRINK ANY MORE", no thanks.

I felt such a relief. Then I panicked that I've jinxed myself. So that's why I'm writing about it. Which is stupid. Then one religious lady at work said "don't forget to have one thing new and some fish on New Year's Day for good luck. Hell, I don't believe in all that old wives crap, but you know what I ended up doing???

I bought two cans of tuna fish. They were "new" and they were "fish" and put them on my table.

We have always had a tradition of Pork and Sauercraut (sp) for luck on new years day. I have drank every year, so tonite it's New York Strips, shrimp and asparagus!! Nothing in my mind is luckier than "surf and turf" BTW, I love saying "I don't drink any more" as well!

LOL...if I though I could improve my luck by standing on my head and whistling Dixie I'd do it. Happy New Year!

Nice one. Its normal to feel a bit weird after saying it for the first time. But its great--it somehow makes your effort really come alive in a concrete way... It rolls off the tongue pretty casually for me now... but it took awhile to get there...

Much love,

Clayton

I was so touched by your post. Brought tears to my eyes. I think there is something so powerful about saying that out loud (and knowing it inside). Helped me re-confirm my own commitment to myself.

This is the 3rd Post on SR in bout the last 12 hours I have read about this. I don't even know what black eyed peas are but I better get some! I mean...I realize they are some kind of pea, but don't think I've ever had them.

Congrats kiki! Good for you.

They had black eyed peas at our AA meeting tonight! I brought chocolate chip cookies, and Vanilla coffee mate...and was surprised to see the beans!

It sounds like you just went with it, and it's fun to try new suggestions. You sound teachable.

Happy New Year!

I went out to visit some friends for an hour or two on NY eve. Some people were drinking, someone tried to hand me a shot. I said "nah I don't drink". I was always a beer drinker, but I never said no to free shots.

I spent another hour there and then went home to spend time with my family.
