Mouthwash

My dentist suggested to use Listerine, as its the best for protecting teeth and gums (the medicated brown color).. I took a swig of that and was like, jeez, this is almost straight alcohol.. Dunno.. It didn't bother me too much, but I'mma have to find something different..

Anyone else have this problem?

I know a lot of alcoholics will not use mouthwash with alcohol in it. There are mouthwashes available without.

I use non alcoholic Scope. I gotta believe Listerine has a non-alcohol version too.

Strictly non-alcoholic mouthwash if I am using mouthwash. I wouldn't personally consider using any alcohol based mouthwash like listerine.

If it freaks you out, then you don't have to use it. Lately I am more about brushing than mouthwashing on top of it (maybe I'm gross), but I have used it once in a while since I quit drinking. Sometimes I also use the alcohol-based stuff (on my hands) when I think my girly soap (ha ha) isn't really getting rid of germs. I notice I am not crazy about it, but I just look at it as a brief utilitarian thing. If you think part of you sees this as alcohol in the sense that you remember as an alcoholic, then maybe you should not have products like these around. Whatever you think is going to keep you safe and comfortable.

Like others have said, there are non alcoholic mouthwash options.

Like Toronto I say use whatever gets the job done and makes you comfortable

Well... funny I don't care too much now, I remember though early on, mistaking real scope with the N/A... Freaky for me...

My dentist, whom I had to tell for a lot of reasons... gave me some full strength stuff not long ago.. I commented after I rinsed... He said, yea, it really bothers the alcoholics... um, Dr... Don't you remember that conversation we had a couple of times just last year???

Funny, though, the N/A beer doesn't bother me at all... go figure... and no, I didn't drink mouthwash to get a buzz... but I did swallow

Never thought about the mouthwash thing, but it freaked me out to see someone drinking mouthwash on A&E intervention once. But hand sanitiser always brings me back to the scent of vodka cocktails. Quite disturbing but I still use it out of necessity and it is yet to be responsible for a relapse. The other chemicals in that crap would scare me enough to not drink it

The only reason I would never use alcoholic mouthwash is because I drank it to stave off withdrawal a good few times. It brings back bad memories I guess

I agree with yeahgr8 in that it's probably OK to use if you've never drank it
