Liver Results & Drinking Again
Hi All,
Just a quick one can any of you guys recall if you had a liver function Test and remember the result. Worse then did you still drink knowing the result.
The reason i ask is i was speaking to somebody whose Liver was 8 times the normal (recomended reading think its 50) and carried on for another 3/4 months drinking hard.
Mine was double which i imagine is around 100 (so the doctor said but did have bloods done a week after quitting so know doubt would of been higher) and a suggested was already a week cold turkey.
Look forward to any replies.

Hi Robbo,
That's the insanity of the disease. Did your doctor offer any type of support group or therapy?
I have not had any physical problems so far. I quit two years ago. I hope someone posts soon that can answer your question. I will keep you in my prayers.

My liver test results before I quite drinking a month ago were worrying. I'm not sure which two liver tests I had but my doc said that one result should be lower than 40 and the other lower than 50. My results were 150 and 500. After ten alcohol free days the 500 result was down to 400. I'm having another test early in October.
Clearly I've done damage to my liver. My doctor says my liver should recover, but having done my own research with google (always a mistake with health issues) I'm less reassured and very, very confused. Maybe I'll be OK, maybe I won't. I don't know. All I know is that a month ago my insides ached, and now they feel fine. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed I guess.
What I do know is that getting the liver results from my doctor certainly helped me quit. It's difficult to hand-wave away cold, clinical facts when told them face to face by a doctor. So to decide to continue drinking regardless is as good as throwing in the towel and saying that turning bright yellow and dying a very unpleasant, painful death in the not too distant future is preferable, easier and less scary than trying to do something about it.
I understand the thinking involved in the suicidal option, I just can't sympathise with it.
Bananaman.

That's the exact same thing that happened to me. My ALT & AST were slightly elevated, and I knew it was from the booze. I quit the next day without any assistance, and now have been sober for 6 months. The liver enzymes were normal within a month in my case.
