Sorry to hear that but everything happens for a reason. If you survived drinking I'm sure you'll survive jail however this is a reinforcement for me.
OMG- this has made me totally sick to my stomach. The last binge I had I drove drunk ( don't really remember it). That was over 13 months ago. This is just another reason to never even risk drinking again. My fine dining a** put up with rehab food for 8 days. No choices but it wasn't too bad. I just gained about 10 pounds from the fat.

I was in a rehab and the food was actuallypretty decent. The most bland food I had when I was 302'd. It was bland at best. Meat was kinda funny tasting, but Ive eaten lots of stuff so It didnt bother me much. The breakfast was the worst. Scrambled eggs were not eggs in any way shape of form. Jail doesnt bother me too much. I can handle myself and I know as long as one does their own time, its pretty much boredom that sets it for most. I actually dont think I will get that much time as the county jail is so packed that I am low on the totem pole of criminals. Probably more house arrest than anything.

Some tips:
The food - It is an absolute no no to throw it away if you don't want it. Give it to someone.
Find out the time immediately before you go in. "What time is it" will be one of the first questions you are asked by another inmate.
Be friendly but not soft
No ethnic slurs of any kind better leave your mouth
Treat the CO's with respect and they will usually do the same of you
Brush up on your funny stories and get ready to play alot of cards and dominos
It wasn't so bad, but I never want to go back.

Thanks for your post. Ive been readin up too.
jail food sux, they're not concerned about fattening you up... i got out of prison in whiteville tn 10 months ago... had to stay 33 months, all because of things i did while drinking and drugging... the food there was a step up from jail, only because we had a chow-hall to walk to, and didn't have to eat in our cells... to this day i still will not eat any sort of rice, or pasta of any kind... it should be a crime to serve that much of one thing to anyone, day after day after day... and like someone said before me, you'll appreciate good bolgna when you leave... i don't know what that crap is they serve, but it has no name.

My sentence was for a year, six months suspended, I spent three months inside with one month working for the county on the ankle monitor program. Six months turns to four months via "good time" which they gave to just about everyone due to over crowding. They may suspend the entire 6 months. I had them do that multiple times before they finally sent me in. If this is your first DUI then expect the entire 6 months to be suspended.
Besides the the mystery meat as barrylane eluded to the rest is pretty much starch. The popular thing to do in our lovely county jail was to make jail house burritos out of raman noodles and tortillas and I don't know what else they put in them I wasn't interested in trying to heat up the noodles in the cell sink plus I detoxed there and was craving sweets so mine was almost all candy.
Have money put on your books for commissary. If you go. Are you any good at chess?

That Is a true statement!!!! I did 10 days once for 2nd DUI and hated everything about it. Then I did 18 months at a max security prison for a crime I did NOT commit, but took an alford on my attorneys advice.
The food S*CKS!!!!! There is no way around that. In VA, everything meat-wise is made from turkey>> turkey bacon, bologna, spaghetti sauce, sausages, burgers, you name it......
I got to where I even thought the milk was made from turkeys!! I lost 35 lbs. and felt great. AND that is where I first had total sobriety. After 5 months or so I kept wondering why I was feeling so good in this Hell-Hole. It dawned on me that it was the absence of alcohol in my bloodstream. Many inmates were saying the 1st thing they wanted to do when released was get plastered; and I thought that is the last thing I want to do, this feeling is remarkable and I don't want to lose it. Use the time for inventory, and prayer.
Good luck,

Be careful about putting money in for commissary. If you're in for more than a few days you'll need it, but if you're only in for a few days the jail itself will make up any excuse to steal the money from you.
For example: there's usually a bogus "pay to stay" fee, where you have to give them like $100 for every night you spend in jail. In all likelihood you will never see a bill for this, but if you pony up money for the commissary they'll take it from you and put it towards your "pay to stay"
Also, commissary is usually ordered once a week, and arrives about a week after you order it. So if you're in less than a week, you're out of luck.
The biggest problem with food, in my opinion, is not the quantity or the quality, but rather the schedule. They feed you three meals in such quick succession that you can't choke it all down, and then they leave you starving overnight.
All jails are different, of course, so take this as advice based on my own experience

My first DUI, but I refused the breath test and I have another misdemeanor too. I like chess but probably will just keep mostly to myself if I go in.

Thanks for the advise. I never got the legality of paying to stay in jail. Thats what my tax dollars go for. I think its illegal and unconstitutional to make you pay for something that you already pay for with tax dollars.
