In my first few months I was afraid to go to a bar or night-club.

Since then I will go for the sake of someone else but not for my own gratification. I simply don't enjoy it.

I do like to visit people who are not drinking. I go to more church activities, civic events and theaters than I ever did while drinking and found out that most people don't drink like I did or thought they did.

Just got back from playing a gig at a bar and it went fantastic. I played real well and went down a storm and I didn't even consider drinking booze. I had 2pints of Coca-Cola.
Feels great to have played well, presented myself in a good, positive manner and generally had my wits about me and portryed myself as "ME" rather than 7 pints of strong Lager (or whatever I may have drank after that first drink) Keeping away from that forst drink really does work and it feels great to remember leaving the gig and remember conversations with people etc. I really do like being a non-drinker.

It's funny because there were a lot of 16, 18, 20 year olds, who all seemed very naive and were drinking soft-drinks in the main and were generally "nice" people, I had a few moments where I thought "My god what a different path/life I lead at there ages, I had moments of sadness that I lost many things over the last 5 years due to bingeing but then again I feel it has made me a better musician/songwriter/guitarist as I can draw upon all of my experiences of which many are profoundly life-changing ie - hitting many rock bottoms, finding sobriety etc.

Peace, xx
