Question about gin
Question about gin
One of the few people I know who knows I quit drinking has asked me how I got sober. SHe wants to stop drinking and was asking me about my experience. I was a wine drinker but her doc is gin. I remember reading somewhere long ago that gin is processed differently than other alcohol, that it goes thru the liver virtually untouched, or something like that. That it's harder on the body than other liquors/alcoholic drinks. I've googled the question but got no specific answers.
Anyone know any information about this? Thanks!

I was a gin and vodka drinker. I don't know what happens once its in the body except that it was harder than hell on me. By the time I got sober, I looked a good fifteen-twenty years older than I was.

I was a mean nasty drunk. However, when I drank Gin I got meaner and nastier. Found out years later that I am allergic to the Juniper Berry which is what Gin is distilled from.
Gin is alcohol. Alcohol destroys the liver.
If and when your friend is ready I know you will give her excellent advice about detox (you know how bad yours was). Show her by example, how much better it is to be sober than to be drunk. The rest is up to her.

Share your own experience, strength, and hope with her.
My bet is that regardless of the alcohol source, many of the same behaviors and circumstances were exactly the same.
Helping others is an outstanding way of expressing appreciation for our own sobriety.

I have shared my withdrawal experiences with her, but I think she's afraid of withdrawal. I suggested she go to the doctor for medical supervision. It's up to her now. I hope she goes the right way. Also told her what I was told many times; if you stop now you never have to go thru this again...
Gin is merely ethanol (alchohol) that is flavored with Juniper berries. As an additive, Juniper flavoring can cause nasty hangovers. And you're right, Least. It's all up to her. When she wants to quit more than she wants to drink, she will.
Just read a book about the history of alcohol entitled (what else?) "Drink", & it says the British took to Gin so much in the 1700's that there were "Gin Mothers," much like we have "Crack Moms" today. Just thought that was interesting............good book.
thats right mike the women took to the gin .......big big problem in the 1700s.
its still known as "mothers ruin" here.
gin.....if i ever got the chance to drink it ..........i got nasty or nastier.
