30 days today
I have 30 days of abstinence from alcohol today. I've gone 2-4 weeks without alcohol several times over the past few years--mostly just to clean out my system and to make sure I didn't really have a drinking problem.
This time around, though, I'm viewing the 30 days as the launch pad into a very long time of abstinence and healing. I still have the momentary brain freezes once or twice a day, where I don't process information well--but apart from that, I feel pretty good. I'm learning how to relax and rest without needing alcohol (which is something I doubted was possible), I have much less anxiety, and I sleep better. I have a few days off coming up this weekend and I've been worrying about the temptation to drink--but I like the way I feel now and I think it's more a matter of battling the old thought patterns than actually wanting to drink. I'm going to focus on the fun things I can do with the time off and not give time or energy to the thought to drink. Thanks for your support!
