I personally don't find the need to tell anyone I am an alcoholic. Sure my husband and family knows but I rarely use the word. For me its just another label. When drinking comes up I just say no thanks...if people ask why I say "I gave it up" or "me and booze don't mix." My personal struggles with alcohol are just that...personal.

I told everyone to protect myself and also to see who my real friends are...also some work colleagues and my boss. If someone i didnt know offered me a drink i would tell them that i don't drink anymore, then if they ask why i will tell them. I certainly would never hide it whatever the situation...jobs, friends, SO are easily replaced self respect and esteem are not IMO.

It is so easy to forget this....life does go on! And I agree finding other things can be significantly harder.

It seems some people have this bad idea of who an alcoholic or someone in recovery is.

Me, I see it as overcoming a great life obstacle. Like slaying a dragon...
A dragon, perfect!
I tell everyone who asks, inquires or even hints. I am freaking proud of my sobriety!
Funny thing is only another alcoholic cares .
Best
