A thread in conjuction to the why am I not dead thread

For all the time and money I put into friggin booze I sure don't know much about it.

So here it goes I've been drinkin for some 10 years and I'm 31 ( Drinkin means drinkin til I'm done, somewhere in between I can't function or I made an ass of myself).

I started off on Hard and beer but always more beer then hard and the last 5 years I have only been a beer guy with a mixed drink every now and then.

I would say the majority of my drinkin life has been 5 to 8 beers a night but now I am up to 10 to 12 a night and I take a break (Don't drink that night) when I feel like crap. SO it's safe to say I drink 6 out of the 7 days in a week.

Now I didn't drink yesterday with intentions of not drinking tonight and that didn't work out. What I would like to know is that I went to the doctors a year ago for a physical. Everything came out fine and I know my blood came back fine when I went in the ER for one of those stupid anxiety attacks about a month ago.

With this talk of units or what not how many units do I normally drink a day given my intake above and should I be medically supervised when I finally beat this most evil thing on earth? Thanks for any help

Hi and welcome to SR. I think the answer to your question should come from your doctor as we don't give medical advice. I would suggest that you tell them exactly what you told us and see what their recommendation is. Alcohol withdrawals can be deadly so they are best handled with medical supervision.

Good luck and keep reading and posting!

Take care,
Kellye

What I'm hearnig is that you are seeking recovery - I got sober (first time) at 31 my meds were also cool...but my life was so sh!t. It is soo good now. I celebrate 3 years sober in March. I could not go for 3 days without a drink until I found this site and then AA. AA has not saved my life - it has given me a far better NEW life!

I hope you will try it! I - and millions of others - could not do it alnoe. And you'll learn it's so much more than just puttnig down the booze - which I couldn't do anyway lol!

Thanks

I've tried AA like 4 times religiously, I even went to the Salvation Army rehab center around here, but I never wanted to quit. I'm not a very religious person but I have a relationship with God but regardless of what people recommend I would rather not include God in my recovery for my own reason. We could get into that discussion but thats a whole other thread. That is not meant to be a bad thing , it's not a knock on God it's just my choice. I know for me personally the wanting to quit frame of mind will do me more good then anything else will.

So I hope you already recognize the slow progression of drinking. 6-8 becomes 10-12 becomes 12-13 with and occasional 15 becomes etc... I'm not saying that will happen to you, but it sounds like that path. I'm still not exactly sure why I was never able to put the brakes on... it can get even more rediculous, even just considering the money, much less your health.

It sounds like you have concerns, and I hope you can put the brakes on sooner than myself.

Wanting to quit never returned any results for me.

I drank for 8 years - wanting to quit.

I heard a saying recently - made a lot of sense to me. "God is in me like the ocean's in the wave."

Which portion of that wave is God not a part of?
